Printed catalogs of the manuscripts from the municipal library of Chartres

The manuscripts were catalogued in the 8th series of the Catalogue général des manuscrits des bibliothèques publiques de France :

    The shelfmarks in the inventory of destroyed manuscripts are sometimes incorrect.

    The shelfmarks correspond to those between parentheses in the Catalogue général of 1890. Detailed descriptions of some manuscripts, such as ms. 498 (142), volume 2 of the Heptateucon of Thierry of Chartres, and the Apothecarius moralis of Saint-Père-en-Vallée, ms. 1036 (H. l. 51).

    Catalogue of the most important illuminated manuscripts, arranged chronologically.
    Inventory of the illustration and decoration ; 24 plates.

The arms of the Chapter of Chartres (azure with a tunic argent) were stamped on parchment bindings in the 17th century (ms. 149). The tunic of the Virgin is the most precious relic of the cathedral.
